advice on 30gal cube canopy

hey everyone i need some advice on how i should build my canopy for my 30gal cube. should i make the canopy spill over the top frame of the tank with side panels? or should i leave the nice wood birch frame the tank has, showing, and just make the canopy sit in the inner ledges, where the glass top is sitting now?

i'd go outside the trim. if you still want the trim to be exposed, just put the support mounts 1/4" or so up from the base on the canopy to form a lip around the outside of your tank. leave the back open, just enclose the 3 side. just my suggestion.

I just built a canopy for my 55g and I covered the tank trim. In my opinion it provides a cleaner appearance if it is covered. I can snap some pics if you like but the canopy is not stained yet. I need to disassemble it and stain it but I have not found the time. Since I am not exactly a "handy" man I decided to build and test it before I wasted time on finishing it.

hey looks nice, i think im gunna go with making a frame sit on the inner ledge of the top frame, and put plywood/moldings around the frame to make it looks nice and it will match up with the nice birch top frame of the tank.

Just thinking,

will placing your top inside the lip still leave you enough room for your lights?

and is there any chance you will want to put a cover (glass top) over this tank along with the hood, your design might make this difficult.?

Just making sure you have thought all options...

Nick
