My DIY Calcium Reactor TOTW 2-24-05

Hi guys
Heres a few pics of a few DIY projects ive been getting into first off is a calcium reactor i basiclly recycled a skimmer that i no longer required i put a new bit of perspex on the top and plumbed it up to a eheim pump . I gave it the wet test and was happy with integrity of the reactor with no leaks . Ime waiting at the moment for a regulator to arrive so havent done the test work yet ive got a Korralin 3001 to compare it with so ime keen to get it up and running..
The pics have my little girl in there helping dad with his latest toy . PSSS mum was at work so she stayed up past midnight helping dad get it loaded

Diy Project

WOW i find it hard to believe that 50 people could view this thread and not one of those persons could respond with a single word of encouragement .
And for those that viewed it and didnt think the sight of my little girl helping me out wasnt one of sweetest things you would ever see I salute you....Personally i think it the best post ive ever posted on a BB ..Its a excellent DIY project and family involvement at its best.Whats the point of going to that effort for nil input ?...

Im curious wheres the lid? you have pics of that as well? I would like to see how the rest of it connects/flows. How much media does it hold? and BTW your girl is very cute! Dont freak out about ppl not responding right away, that happns for more reasons than you can probably imagine.

Diy Project

Rocky and Jeff
Thanks for the reply and ime sorry for freakin out i truly regret it today just happened to have one of those days and acted like a powderpuff to say the least..
Back to the reactor yes it has a lid and i included a pic to try and give you guys a better understanding of how it works. In reality its nothing really special its just a single pass reactor that i slapped together on the weekend .How much media does she hold i would have to say around 4 kilos .The media is unique cause i sourced it myself .Its mainly Acropora corals that i found washed up on the beach on my last trip to Ningaloo reef (The largest reef structure on the west coast of Australia ). I targeted as fresh a coral as i could that had recently bleached and washed up. I then crushed it in a jaw crusher and sized it in a screen for uniform consistency then hosed the life out of it to remove as much Sio2 SILICA as possible in the end i ended up with useable product i think? .Ime in the process of having the media tested for total calcium content and to see what other elements are also included and what percentage . Ive got the Tunze analysis data so ill be comparing it to see if i have genuine useable product.

Very interesting indeed! I would love to hear the results. Much better grasp of your reac now with those pics....Very nicely done...wadja use on the acrylic to PVC seal...marine goop? Eheim is good choice on pump too.

now that gives me an idea for a use for my old seaclone skimmer. I just finished making a reactor out of an old Mag 350 Canister filter and now I may just use the seaclone for a second chamber.

Nice work!

If I could make one suggestion..?
The effluent out to your tank comes from freshly mixed CO2. Could you add the effluent out to the lid? This would allow the CO2 to completely pass thru the media.
