where can you buy bulk filter media?

anyone know where you can buy bulk filter media? I was wondering if you could just use that pile stuffing like what is in a pillow... you can buy huge amts of it at fabric stores... and it seems in some ways simmilar to some of the media out there. i just wonder if this stuff is treated with anything... im really looking for any type of media that i can use for a prefilter...

How much is "bulk" ? - I usually buy filter floss at the local fish store in 500g bags...runs about $5.00, thats about 2 cubic feet of floss (give or take).

i have yet to see this filter floss at any lfs. all they have is that blue stuff...

I've found that filter floss has a tendency to "float" fibers if not contained in some type of container. So, the fibers that are floating around will get caught up in the pumps and could burn them out... I'm running a sump with 2 mag24's and when I done my once-in-a-while cleaning of them I found fibers wrapped around the shafts.. No more floss in our aquarium...
