Question closed loop setup

I have a 58 gallon tank .I have 2 1-3/4 holes drilled lower center for 1' bh then 2 holes same size upper middle on left and right sides fitted with 1' jucuzzi jet bh wich I want to use for returns for loop. my question is should I drill a seperate hole for the feed to the close loop pump or can I use 1 of the lower center holes 1 for pump and the other for drain to sump? these 2 holes will be covered by internal flow box which if I have to shut the sump down and still want the loop running would this still work?

Hi j whale, Welcome to Reefland!

If I understand you correctly, you want to use 1 of the 1" bulkheads that will be behind an overflow for your closed loop? I don't think it will work. If the drain for the sump was above the bulkhead for the CL and the sump pump was shut off, the water would drain below the overflow and your CL pump would pump dry. The CL bulkhead needs to be seperate from the overflow and if you have to drill it, I would put it close to the bottom of the tank, or a couple of inches above the sand bed if that is the way your going.

Scott, thanks for the information. I did some drilling befor I got your post. this is what I am hoping to get done. I added 2 1' bulkheads above the 1' jet bulks. I plann to hook 1 mag 5 to each hole split the returns 1 side to jet bulk the other to a dump bucket the other side 1 to jet bulk the other to a refugime above main tank. I plan to use the 2 center 1' bulks to feed sump I will have a internal over flow 19.5 tall by 8' across by 6' deep plan to plumb 2 stand pipes to the 2 bulks for noise reducer and have it flow to 20gl sump does this sound like it will work? thanks Jeff
