Steel stand or wood stand?

I am planning an inwall 180 tank. i would like the stand 44" tall. I was thinking of building a steel stand. Anybody out there have a steel stand (frame).

Suggestion needed....

Thanks

I would go with a wooden stand for the ease of construction and they are just as durable.

I built my stand out of treated 4X4's for my 135. It has no center brace and the tank is solid as a rock!

You don't really need a steel stand for a 180-gal tank -- 2x4's would do just fine. Steel stands are nice and certainly recommended for really large tanks.

I voted for wood, just cause that's all I've used and currently use for my 150G. Steel is great but not seen much of unless it is a inwall display. From what I've seen most people like wood stands with matching canopys. For my 300G in a couple of months I'll be using steel bracing for the display and steel shelving for the 150G refugium and the 75G sump. But this one will be a wall unit. Good luck.

Steel stands are relatively cheap in the store....

But if I had to construct one, I would use wood

hmm... immagine a 175 gallon tank falling and braking, all those wonderful creatures on the dying on the floor, and then the repair bill for the water damage
