Size of MH lights?

What is the height of a mogul MH fixture, not including the reflector? I am trying to determine if a 12" canopy minus a 2.5" overhang (so 9.5" total) will keep the lights 8" above the water.

8-10'' off the surface seems to be the norm. of course if heat is an issue you can raise them and/or throw a fan or 2 on to assist.

Thank you for your quick response. However, my question is regarding the size of the fixture itself, not the mounting height. Sorry if that was not clear in the original post.

Usually you allow a space of 0.5"-1.0" between the reflector and the inside of the canopy. Then the mogul socket itself can't be positioned right up against the inside of the reflector, it has to be mounted far enough beneath the reflector to allow room for the lamp so that it doesn't touch the reflector. Various retrofit mogul socket/reflector packages are mounted slightly differently but I think that you will end up with your lamps about 6" above the water based on what you are telling us. It all depends on how high your operating water level is, too?

Just measure from the inside of your canopy to the water's surface and subtract 3". That should be about right.
