Fuge will go up top.....a 20 gallon drilled with gravity feed through the side to the main. The cabinet has 2 shelves in it and I'll use it for storage.

The 20 gallon drain hole will be above the top rim of the 75 gallon display?

Yes I measured it that cabinet top is a little more than half way up the side of the main. The 20 will sit with plenty of room for the bulkhead to drain. I did it this way so my little critters won't have far to travel before reaching either paradise or a fish's stomach.

Awesome choice and planning! You'll be pleased with your decision!
Something you should consider is T'ing your return from your sump with an additional line to go to your refugium. This way, you don't have to put a small pump in your display to pump water to your refugium. ![]() |

I have been considering a mag pump much bigger than the 9.5 since I'll be using it for a closed loop. I'm not sure how I can get a large enough pump to circulate the display and get the same pump to put a small amount of water through the fuge. Seems like if I used a smaller line it would spray out harder or make the closed loop not function right. Thoughts?

You can do it with a line, the same size as your return line, with a ball valve right after you T it off. That would allow you control over the amount of water you run through your refugium.
Also, MAG's are kind of difficult to hook up externally like would be needed for a closed loop. The plastic housing are kind of flimsy so a slight over-tighten with the plumbing and you'll crack it. You might look into other pump options for the closed loop. |

Nice stand Samper. I've just finished framing mine. What do you guys think of using Thompson's water seal for the inside of the cabinet?

Poseidon I know what you mean, I always like to put a face with a name.
Bguile.....I'd say it's better than spending 30 bucks on a quart of marine varnish..I'm sure I'll go that route also.

Well my buddy told me you've been buying up everything that's for sale in your part of the world so you're not bad off. How's that extra large skimmer working out for ya or have you not set it up yet?

Update:
My tank is in and on the stand. It is drilled with 2 1" bulkheads and has black acrylic corner overflows. I ordered the overflows made so that my water line is always above the black rim of the tank. The guys over at Aquatic Concepts did it for me for pretty cheap and the work is nice. They are just getting started but have a beautiful shop already. If you live in the Durham area of NC go check them out. Real nice guys.

I'm compiling a list of what all I need to get before setting up hopefully in January.
I need: Euroreef Es8-2 MRC Dual chamber Calcium reactor and Single Nielsen Reactor and all the gear to run them including co2 tank, guages, bubble counter. Build a sump but might just use a huge rubbermaid. Get a 20g drilled in the for the fuge gravity feed Return pump from sump.....haven't decided which one yet because I would like to have a wave maker but don't want all the powerheads hanging around. I like the idea of a closed loop but also the wave makers. If I go with the wave maker and end up with powerheads in the main I won't need too big of a return pump.......something between 700-1000gph should do. Some sort of nice halides.....maybe aquaspacelight 250w's 10ks with the vhos. Ph Probe or monitor.......? What bank account breaking stuff have I forgotten?
