    Aquarium Stand Plans:Need Input

    Hey all,

I am attaching the plans I have drawn up for my stand. They are in pdf form. Take a look at it and let me know if the design looks sturdy and strong enough to hold the 90g I am going to be placing on it.

This stand is being "built-in" to my existing wall, but will still be a seperate unit so that I can take it with me when I move. It will be built with 2x4's and fastened using L brackets, wood glue, and deck screws. It will also have a 6" ledge in the back. This will give me a place to lay equipment while in use, and at the same time give me more space below which will be enclosed to contain all the filtering equipment.

Let me know what you guys think please. Thanks.

I know 2x4s are strong enough but I used 4x4s for my legs.....just felt right.
Good luck, I've had plenty of things come up on me that I didn't expect. All in all it's gonna cost me more than I though but I'm not building it in the wall so I have to worry about molding, hiding seams etc.

Lol..it's always the little stuff isn't it?? I was in Lowes today figuring how much it's gonna cost. It'll be a little cheaper or close to what I'd end up paying somewhere else, but at least I'll get to do with it what I want and custom build it to fit my current structure.

Yeah I couldnt see paying for something that I was most likely going to wanna reinforce anyway. Since your going with an in wall look and your stand will be behind it you shouldn't have any problem getting that together in under a day. For my spacing underneath the main I went with 8". On the 4x4s I cut grooves in them so the 2x4s slide right in......sort of like lincoln logs when you were a kid. Other than that you should have an easy time.

Thanks. I'm hoping it won't take that long but at the same time want to make sure it's nice and sturdy. I don't have much equipment to notch the wood so I'll have to drill, screw, glue, and brace it all together. I'll be just buying a mitre saw to cut the wood...so I'll have to keep it simple.

Well, I'm done the basic framing of my stand. Now just need to plan shelves, plumbing, refugium lighting...etc. I'll post some pics once I download them.
