I'm about to paint the back of my tank black and was wondering if theres a spray paint brand out there that works better than others, or if I should use a particular roll-on, any advice on what paint, how many coats, etc? Thanks a bunch.

Before I converted my cichlid tank to saltwater I had rolled on some black Rust Oleum with a small roller. Came out really nice and impossible to get off, unless you use a razor blade. My Mag Float took some off while using that on the back glass but not enough to notice from the front. Michelle's idea sounds good, too. Not as much mess.![]()

One coat was enough. If you use a roller you shouldn't have a problem....I had to use a small roller because the tank was already against the wall with not much room. hth
Oh Well, I'm on my 3rd coatI've got the tank, and am still waiting on my RO/DI unit.. so i figure what the heck else am I gona do with this leftover paint.. But thanks for the advice, the rustoleum flat black looks real nice.
Glad to hear it worked out for you.Rust Oleum was recommended to me by several folks and works well for this. I think flat black is a good background for reefs too, which is why I'm leaving mine as is. ;)
Now I'm thinking about painting an aquafuge with it to stop light from leaking into the main tank...
