That oughta do the trick, but I bet you are gonna upgrade in the future!! remember, I don't think overskimming is possible

Hey Everyone!

One more pic for you! This is going to be my lighting layout. It will be temporarily hung from the ceiling until the hood is assembled. When the hood is finished the rack will be pinned to "L" channels attached to the hood. I will be able to adjust the hight of the lights by moving it up and installing the pins into one of the additional mounting holes.....

Excellent design Greg! I understand how it will adjust to the horizontal movement but can you elaborate on how it will adjust vertically?

Hey if you get a chance check out this thread I dug up....I made it TOTW and it may have some merit in sparking some ideas for you.

240gal garage sump/frag system TOTW 3-14-05

Thanks!

Cool project......

Well the light shrouds will be permantly attached to the aluminum "u" channel in the picture. On the inside of the hood mounted vertically will be "L" channel aluminum with multiple holes drilled in it. These holes will be used to mount the ends of the "u" channel to and also used for the hieght adjustment of the whole lighting rack..... I hope that makes sense...

Here is a pic of the sump I had built for my 150gal. The sump for this project will be similar with the exception of the dimensions and an additional baffle before the return pump.....

Hello Hello!!!!!!

I recieved my Aquacontroller 3 Pro in the mail today........ This was a big chunk of change but now that it is out of the way I can buy the "less expensive" stuff such as the pumps and light ballasts.... Hopefully next payday I can get the ReeFlo Hammerhead pump for my closed loop system. I'll keep you all posted on the projects progress...... Here is a pic......

Hey Charlie!

Temp, PH, ORP and Conductivity. Most of the rock will be base rock. That way I will be able to sculpt it the way I like prior to setting it in the tank. I will buy about 75lbs live rock to seed the base rock. One of the goals will be to have plenty of sand visible in the main tank. That will require quite a bit of rock to be placed in the sump.

Hows the project coming along. I'm hopping in the near future to have the knowledge that you guys have so i can build something like this. It's funny give me a brand new car and i can tear it apart and put it back together no problem (and it might even run again lol) but when it comes to the picture you drew on the first page it might as well be in another language lol i hope i can build something like this in the near future.

Thanks for the compliments...

I kind of understand where you are coming from. I am mechanic by trade and have done some tinkering on cars myself. This isn't really any different. I just spent a lot of time looking at everyone else's set up and then went from there. The goal here was to make the set up as self sufficient as possible while keeping it as simple as possible. Here are a couple of goals. Eliminate extra plug in devices. This meant no powerheads or supply pump for the calcium reactor. The supply for the rector will come from the sump return line. Simplistic plumbing... Make all the plumbing go to where it needs and that is all. Extra lines going here and there complicate things and also leave more room for failure such as a leak. Anyway, you can see where I am going. Feel free to swipe my ideas so you can build a new system...

Just wanted to give everyone an update on the project.... I just ordered the Oceans Motions 8 way and I am planning to get a couple of pumps on order soon. If my extra job brings in some cash for me this week I will also pick up my Red Sea Aquazone 200. The project is comming along slowly but surely......

Update!

Hey Everyone!

1) My Oceans Motions 8 Way arrived today! Yes it is like x-mass at my house... At least for me anyway...

2) I have an Iwaki 55 on order to run my skimmer so hopefully I will get that soon...

3) The next thing on the order list will be the Ozonator by Red Sea. If all goes well that will be on order next week.

4) Construction of my sump will commence in the next couple of weeks so things are starting to come together.

Well so long as the funds can be put towards the tank I am still hoping to have water in it by the end of September. I know I know it is still a long ways off. Believe me when I say that nobody is more excited than I to get this thing going. But the goal here is to pay for everything in cash so patients is a huge virtue here..... Hopefully I will be able to start posting some assembly pictures soon.....

Hey R/C Man, I have been following this thread. I like what you have going on with the tank. I too have a 300 gl. Tank in the mist of setting up. I am moving in a new house in AUG. and plan to set the tank up. I Just got done with building the stand frame. I made it out of 4x6 and 3/4" ply. When it gets to the house I will then put the outside cover on the stand. My real question is on your sump. How big is it going to be? Will it have a refuge in it? Do you have any detail drawings on the layout of the sump?
Thanks for the thread it has been helpful.... I have been slowly buying everything I needed for the tank since FEB. Once I move about the only thing that I will need is just the plumbing. I hope ..........

underseaworld,

Thanks for the compliment!

Sorry it has taken a few days to get back to you. I have been busy working on a couple projects so I haven't been on the computer very much lately......

Anyway, there is a diagram of my sump on the first page of this thread. It will be 48"lx24"wx20"h. Should be in the neighborhood of 100 gallons. Of course it will only run at 2/3 full. As you can see in the pic, the center section will be the refugium. If I had a basement or garage two 150 gallon rubbermaid containers would be used for the sump/fuge. More water is better... For now though everything needs to fit under the stand.

Well I was supposed to get my ozone last week but it went back order so it may be here tomorrow. Here is hoping, not that I can use it yet....
