well, I was lucky to find a sump that was easily convertible due to its size. you could probably do the same with yours, on a smaller scale given that it is a smaller tank. but without testing it yet, i can't say it will work as optimally as i believe it to. what size is your tank?

my display tank is 4'x 2'x 2' 6". I was looking at maybe installing a 36"x18"x18" sump instead of my current 3'x1'x1'the problem im having is that i dont seem to have enough space to put things ie pumps and power heads to run filters etc so i was looking for a deep and wide one to install the pumps so they wont run dry
do you think im over complicating things ?
i am planning on adding the following equipment:-

a D+D titan hang opn skimmer run by an Eheim 1060 pump
An Eheim 2329 thermo, wet dry, surge external canister filter
a Schuran Jet stream calcium reactor
And an Ocean runner 6500 pump just to turn over the water

what do you think ? and how many pumps will i need to run everything / i havnt got a clue at the minute so any advise is greatly appreciated
thanks

I would suggest researching the use of miracle mud and growth of caulerpa in the sump/refugium a little more. You will have a better idea of the minimum you need with regard to peripheral devices. I have discovered that many people have abandoned there proteim skimmers and any carbon filtered pumps with the induction of this system.

I would personnally prefer to devise a sump/refugium plan to incorporate the use of miracle mud. This would signficantly reduce the number of peripheral devices necessary.

Another option with regard to pumping the water out of the sump, is to just use the pump externally (dry). It sounds like you could use your eheim externally, just be sure to exclude the carbon if you intend to use miracle mud and caulerpa.
