Adding baffles to glass sump
I just wanted to know if it is possible to add baffles to a glass sump? I have a 12" x 24" glass sump that I want to make into a refugium. I looked into getting two pieces of glass at the local glass store and they want $45 for two pieces. I was going to use silicone aquarium sealant to hold the glass in place. Would acrylic be cheaper and would it work? Should I just scrap the whole idea and drop $200 on a 36" acrylic sump? I need to know soon because I just purchased a refugium starter kit with algae and critters.

Yikes!! $45 for 2 pieces!! I got 5 pieces 18x12 double strength (forget the thickness) for less than that, around $6 a piece. Shop around.

Silicone does not bond real well to acrylic, however if you are not looking for watertight seals then its really no big deal to use silicone to acrylic, just use enough to make a border reinforcement for your baffles. I as well as everyone else think that you are being had for that price of glass. You might want to check out some inexpensive picture frames and use the glass insert in them if they are the right price?

![]() I would use "Marine Goop" sold @ HD, rather than silicone. It appears to have better bonding but must allow longer cure times especially when its real thick.

I was looking at tempered glass. I was concerned if I just get regular glass that it would chip into my water or break altogether.Would it be ok to put my Chaetomorpha algae in my show tank until I get my refugium up and running in the next couple of days.
