    help with plumbing

    hello....

i currently have a 100 gallon rubbermaid sump servicing my 150 and 120 tanks, sump is on stand next to the tanks, (28 " high) .

i have another 100 gallon rubbermaid to setup for frag farming. I want to run it inline with t he sump...can't use an over flow because the rubbermaid's shape,

i was thinking of drilling sump with a 1 inch bulkhead, attach a pump and gate valve to pump water to manifold over the frag tank and then have a return pump in an internal overflow structure for return to the sump....plan to use the frag tank overflow as the control for the level...
is this a problem if both tanks are on the same level? each tank using the sump will have its own flow...the sump has an auto top off so its level to stay the same, the other tanks using overflows will prevent overflowing the sump level..

i want this as un-complicated as possible... another thought is to use the 100 gallon as a sump with its own liverock and skimmer and a shallow 50 gallon on top for frag tank.

i wish i could just have someone who knows what they are doing give me a blueprint and i could just follow the directions, sometimes i just get so mixed up
sorry if my thoughts are disjointed, tired tonite
    Peace...Dan

Im kind of confused a little with your explanation, but from what I gather you are using a pump for the flow and a pump for the overflow as well? relying on an equilibrium between the two pumps?

The problem I see with this setup is you are relying on the pumps to consistenly stay at same velocity or rate of flow once you tweak them with their valves to supply an equilibrium between flow inflow and outflow between the frag tank and the sump. If you get a snail caught in one of the pumps then you could have havoc break loose on you.

i want this as un-complicated as possible... another thought is to use the 100 gallon as a sump with its own liverock and skimmer and a shallow 50 gallon on top for frag tank.
I think this would be the better setup if you are talking about an overflow it might be a little more tedious for setup but will payoff in the long run

hehe, boy, rereading that, i don't understand it either, thanks for giving it a shot...
i have the dual pumps between my 150 and sump now (they are at the same level), with one pumping to the sump a little more, so it sucks air (flatulant tank) - until i get an overflow, this works,

but from your post and thinkign a lot, i will just set up a seperate system...50 gallon on top with standpipe draining to 100 gallon sump with liverock/sand bed and skimmer...
my problem is looking at what needs to be done, and doing it without several complications
    Peace...Dan
