150w HQI in Regent pendant? Which one? Heat?
I know there are some people doing a DIY HQI pendant using the Regent lights at home depot...they are cheap and supposedly you just take out the Halogen or quartz bulb in there and some of the models the sockets work perfectly for the 70w HQI bulbs and some of them work for the 150w HQI bulbs I would like to know which ones work with which models of regents? So we can save the cost of the sockets as well as the pendants for size. Also does anyone have issues with or without the glass shield that should be used for UV protection? Please note that you take on your own risk by trying to do something like this and In no way do I recommend it
However with that being said ....I might try it Here is the pendant im thinking about using, supposedly they sell these @ walmart for $7 http://www.arhomecenter.com/user/cat...roductId=99974

Scubadude you would have to modify the end caps due to the shape of the MH bulbs vs the shape of the Quartz Halogen bulbs. You would have to modify the ceramic ends to make the MH fit. Also the 150 watt MH bulbs are longer so you would have to cut the bracket that holds the end caps and spread it out a bit to get the 150 watt MH bulbs to fit. I believe the most commonly used fixture is the Regent 500 watt. It looks like the one your looking into would do the same thing though. Here's a link to the one I'm thinking about doing. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/show...619#post301619 Nano-Reef.com Forums - HOW TO: DIY $110 150w MH Pendant - Regent Revisited As for the UV filters you would need to use it since DE bulbs don't have UV protection like the single ended bulbs do.

Hey Rocky!
I was always scarred of the double ended fixtures with the glass under them. If that breaks it is a lot of work to remove the pieces from your tank. That is not to say the single ended bulbs don't break. But there is less glass involved. Let us know how the project fairs if you decide to do it....
