Fish feeding issues.

How many of you have problems with feeding fish? You know, when you place frozen food in it almost automatically travels to a water inlets leading towards a filter. Or the flakes travel across the surface to be dispersed all over the tank and again into the filters.

I have come up with a super simple device that I want to describe as “ingenious” to help feed my fish. It helps keep my tank clean, saves money by saving food and really is pretty cool. In fact it’s so cool that I am looking at marketing the product.

The reason I am writing you folks is that I want to send out a few samples to get some feedback. The only thing I require is an address, your comments, and you sign a nondisclosure letter.

If you are interested please let me know.

Hey John,
I use a simple method too.I let the frozen food thaw in a cup-o-water before putting it in the tank,it lets the fish get most if not all the food.

I feed them 3 types of food. A mix of flakes, Prime Reef and Pygmy Angel Formula. They all have different characteristics and I do not always have the time to thaw the food plus the Angel Formula never sinks so it always ends up at my black thingies where the water flows into. My fish eat virtually all the food. My idea addresses a lot of issues.

I make portions up ahead of time. I buy frozen brine then thaw out enough to last 3 days.

Make a soup with my liquid food

Take your brine, flakes and soup, mix them together which will make a paste and then portion it out

I was gone for two weeks and gave this to a non aquarist to feed and they had no problems, everything was doing just fine when I came back.

I really do not want to give out to much info now. But it is 3"x4", and that might change to slightly smaller, and nearly invisible to boot. It's a completely passive system, no power of any sort. I allready have a LFS that wants to sell it! It's not a food clip though it is held on by a suction cup. I should be getting my materials in rather quickly and will have them ready just as fast. I'm not trying to be vague, but I will send one for you to try and if it does not fit give it to someone else and ask that they give you feedback.

Here are my observations for my feeder so far.

Here are my observations for my feeder so far.

Now that I am feeding my fish from a single location that means that there is a lot of competition for food and the fish no longer look for their favorite type and pass up the other. This means that virtually all of the food is being consumed, considering I still exercise control in the amount I feed them; two small pinches one after the first is consumed. When the flakes go in, the food sort of “slow releases” into the tank, helping to cause the competition. I’m happy with this because this means that the fish are getting a more balanced diet.

Now as far as the frozen brine is concerned, the feeder gives the food a chance to melt instead of heading to my overflows and being wasted. I hated having to “dig” for the food at the overflows. My Pygmy Angel food always floats and now it is never wasted in my sump.

Here are some of the benefits I see.
  • Saving money on food.
  • Having a chance to inspect all of my fish in one location, at one time, up close.
  • Training my fish to eat at the feeder potentially being able to turn it into a trap for smaller species, ahem Damsels.
  • Enjoying healthier fish from a more varied diet.
  • Having a cleaner filtering system.

Okay folks I have had a few issues with some suppliers but I will get out the feeders as soon as possible. I have only two addresses, you know who you are, so if you are interested I need them. The feeders are free. I had some friends over last night and one of them thought it was the damnedest thing he had ever seen as was super excited about it, and he does not even own fish!

I don't know if you're still looking for people to try your product, but we're interested in trying.
