I'm building my sump today and need to make an acrylic-acrylic bond. I have checked HD, Lowes, and Wal-mart for Weld-on and neither of them have it. Are there any alternatives that are safe to use for this bond. It is only being used to partition an area of the sump and not as a main baffle or wall. It will be a partition that's constantly underwater.
I do have on hand a glue that I use for model airplanes (Plastruc plastic weld) and the like that actually welds (melts) the plastic together. I was thinking of using it but not sure if this is toxic when used with water. Is superglue strong enough??

The only thing suitable for underwater acrylic bonds in Weld-On. If you can't find it locally you'll need to order it online. Us-Plastics should have it available.

Darnit!! I was hoping to be able to complete this project over the weekend. Is there a place where you guys normally find it? Specialty store? Thanks for the quick reply.

The only time I looked for it I was able to find it at a local H & S hardware store. Not sure if you have those around, I think there is only 1 or 2 in the Louisville, KY area.

I was recently searching for Weldon #16 desperately. I have found that most that carry it can charge a fortune just to ship it since it is very flammable and hazardous (maybe not everyone).
Luckily I was able to find it locally by seeking out local plastic shops. Anyone who professionally supplies or handles acrylic should carry it. I checked and US Plastics carry 1 version of Weld On (I think they are in Illinois). You can save by finding it. Start with the phone book. |

Thanks. I've already placed an order with Ridout Plastics online. I stopped at a few places near me and none of them seemed to even know what I was talking about. So instead of wasting gas and time, I just ordered online. Thanks for all the help though.
