sump/fuge idea
I'm ready to add a new sump and fuge for my 100g. I've been reading online to get some ideas when it dawned on me -- why not just use 3 separate "boxes" for the three parts -- overflow/skimmer, fuge, return?
I was thinking about plumbing together three rubbermaid-type bins for the separate compartments. Would this work? Drawbacks? I'm thinking this way wouldn't have to worry about baffles, gluing or anything like that. Just plumb together separate compartments. What do you y'all think? Nate |

Hi Nate,
If you have the room for it, fo gor it! Just make sure that when you plumb them together that each output feeding the next container is lower than the previous. ![]() |

rahter then three seperate you could use drilled plexiglass from the hardware shop as dividers..
thin sheets (around an 1/8 of an inch) are like $14.00 for a 12x18 piece at homedepot. course if your trying to increase the amount of water in the system and you don't care about space ignore this suggestion completely. |

I think the only setback would that you have more susceptibility to leak. Otherwise, it sounds good.

did you ever get the refuge going yet, just curious. I made a small one out of a 10 gal tank for my 55 gal. I used plexi glass dividers and silaconed them in. it seems to be working fine but im thing about making another one with a 20 gal long. just wanted to hear how yours is.

I used a fish tank sealer and that worked very well. you can see on my picture that the refuge is divided and it does not leak through the dividers
