The inlet height is not critical. Once you built the reaction chamber you just place the pump beside the skimmer (with the fittings on it) and figure where the hole goes. I made the inlet hole a bit on the higher side just in case I needed a bigger pump in the future (bigger pump needs a higher inlet).
The outlet/standpipe is adjustable. I used a repair coupling so all you have to do is loosen it, raise or lower it then tighten it back up. It would not make sense to use a ‘solid’ stand pipe; it will only limit your skimmer’s performance. If you incorporated the gate valve on the outlet you could use solid non-adjustable plumbing because the gate valve will adjust the water column within the skimmer. If I could do it all over again, I might have used a different cup. The lid doesn’t fit tight and secure, it only sits on the top. Other than the cup lid I have absolutely no complaints. I will eventually make this a recirculating skimmer so it will perform even better. |
