Rats, I can't find it anywhere. I believe it has to do with cutting off the output nozzle almost flush with the pump housing.
Yup that is the most common mod, you cut off the nipple and hook it to a wave timer, everytime it kicks on it alternate pumping left and right. I have no idea why though!
I think because the impellar spins a different way each time and with the nozzle being shorter, the water isn't guided straight from the nozzle.
my frend pattend them you can get them in his stor Reefdom.com there all mosr as strong as my 6100 his name is Scott Merrill
this has been around for a long time it is a great mod if you use a 30 sec timer mod for the current mj 900 on my 55 gal with great results.
can i get a pic of one that has been moded so i can see how it looks.![]()
Dosen't putting these pumps on a timmer reduce the lifespan on them?

I haven't heard of any problems with MaxiJets, other pumps DEFINATELY! Like the Hagens, or Rios, they will burn up in no time on a wave timer, but MJ keep going strong!
I may give this a try, I currently have 2 1200's running on my 120 gal. Are we talking about just sawing the nipple down to the pump housing, and setting them up on a timmer with 30 sec. intervals?

The Modification To The Pump By Cutting Seems The Way To Go Because The Adaptor For 95 Dollars Seems Way Expensive. I Build My Own Stuff To Keep Price Down And Will Modify A 18 Dollar Pump And Be Ok.
i have 2 6000 tunze in my sps frag tank and 2 Maxi Jets with the mod in my kids softies tank and they are very comparable i wish he came out with these 8 month earlier i don't think 738.00 for the tunze were Worth it when you can get to Maxi Jets and a timer for 230.00
I am using one of the reefdom maxi-jet mods mentioned above. Here is a picture of itin the tank. If you head over to the bostonreefers website there is tons of info regarding ths mod.

All I did with my Maxijet 600 was cut off the output flow and drill 5 holes in the bottom plate by the water intake. Talk about increasing flow BIGTIME! It is a really simple mod and only takes about 5 minutes to do.Originally Posted by ANGRY JOHN

Its actually a pretty sweet mod for these pumps.
thanks for the pic golfish. this is what i was looking for. the question i have now is how far back to cut it. if just the nozzle is cut off then i dont know how it could increase flow rate. if you cut back into the housing a few mm then the hole would be bigger then i could see more water moving threw the pump at a lower discharge pressure. i think if you cut to far into the housing then the pump would be worthless and not move any water. i guess what i am trying to figure out is how far back to cut it. plan to use two 1200 in a 40 gallon breeder so there is going to be lots of flow. i guess what i dont want is to blast any of my animals but have great flow at the same time. thanks everyone for responding. AJ
I use 4 MJ 1200's and a mag 18 and a small rio pump on a 20 gallon so don't worry about 2 MJ's of any size on a 40 gallon. I am thinking of modding my pumps so that maybe I could take a few out to reduce pump noise. I don't know. When you guys talk about drilling holes near the intake what exactly are you talking about? I understand cutting the end off but still don't see how that would increase flow since the hole would be the same size just further back.
