Ozone mod for CPR BAK PAK 2R+
I just purchased the 2R+ and had heard that if you injected the Ozone into the airline before the pump, the ozone would actually destroy the pump. I am wondering if anyone has actually "modified" the inlet (after the pump) in such a way that you could inject the Ozone at that point? I am thinking of trying to attach some sort of a airline bib to the inlet portion and injecting the Ozone that way!
What do you all think? Ryan |

Certain types of plastics are rapidly destroyed by ozone. I'm not sure if the CPR's are ozone safe (you can probably e-mail the manufacturer and they'll tell you), but I personally would never add ozone via a hang on skimmer... the ozonized effluent needs to pass through some activated charcoal to make sure excessive ozone doesn't get in the tank - it can be deadly to many organisms.
Duh... let me clarify that... I use a hang on skimmer with my ozonizer, but the skimmer hangs on the sump and it passes through charcoal that is in the sump. I wouldn't hang it directly on the tank.

I did my research before purchasing the equipment. The 2R+ is ozone safe but they have not made the mods for adding ozone as of yet. I also considered the charcoal issues, there is a way to add a charcoal pad inside the 2R+ where the water returns to the tank. I can actually place the charcoal pad over the return area where all the water will pass through it before returning to the tank.
Can anyone else think of anything negative with this idea? Thanks again, Ryan |

if you inject the ozone into the skimmer after the pump then the bubbles will not be small. the ability of a pad to remove ozone in sufficent quanities to be usefull i would seriously question. i have never seen a hot skimmer that uses 03 to good effect so let me know how it works out. also most skimmers i see that have ozone have a dose of carbon on top of the cup to limit the amount going into the room. i have seen paint peeled off the wall by a skimmer with 03 close to the wall. keep it away from anything valuable.
