sump help

i am setting up my sump and this is what i have:
sump-help-sump.jpg

The skimmer will be too large to fit in the end section on the right side. I can either make another section in the middle (refugium section) which will make the refuge section 15"L x 24"W x 8"H. the skimmer will dump in the end section (11 x 24 x 8).

Or, I can remove the end section and make it larger to accompass the skimmer.

what do you think?

btw, this is on a 636g reef.

Hey Skriz

I would probably put more baffles in the sump and make the
middle section partitioned off for the footprint of your skimmer
all leftover space can usually be handled with small rubbermaid
or tupperware holding rock rubble etc for fuge space. Why
not make the first baffle go under instead of over? It would
appear to streamline your flow more effeciently . Other things
need to be thought out too such as pumps internal vs ext and the space they take, strainer/grate placing, also probes, and float switch

This is for a 636g system? How many g for the sump? Darn sure
sounds like fun

Thanks Rocky!

The tank is 10' long and the sump is 6' long (135g). the pumps are going to have to be external (thinking hammerhead for return, not sure about pump for the skimmer).

with the pumps being external and a calc reactor, i don't think i will have any room to add a rubermaid fuge. would a 15"L x 24"W x 8"H fuge be enough? that's only 12g!

Rocky, fun is the last word I would use to describe this project! It has been one frustrating time dealing with this thing. Some early mistakes have proven to be quite costly and irreversible. :slap: the small details now are killing me, but i am at the point of no return..it's do or die. and if i don't do, the wife will KILL me, so there's definately a die!

I would get rid of the first baffle on the far left hand side. There is no need for it. And, I would move the other remaining baffles to the right so that the first chamber was large enough to fit the protein skimmer inside.

That was not the finished product by the way.. I ended up going with the Skimmer on the right, and Refug on the left and return in the center with a drilled side outlet to the pump. (building it now) will try and post pics this weekend.
