hello I am new to reefland I am going to be drilling out a 46 Gal bowfront my thoughts were I want to drill 1 1 in hole at top near corner to feed my sump for my return I want to drill 3 1/2 in holes two closer to the botton of the tank and one up top in almost oppisite corner of drain the 2 1/2 in holes will have a lokc line Y with flex and the top return will have a single lenth of loc line should my drain and top return be the same height or should the drain be a bit higher please tell me what you thing I am open for suggestions

well bulkheads require larger holes than what the actual pipe dia is so plan that acordingly. i also do not like to have returns to far down below the full waterline unless they are on a closed loop. i also think that using drains drilled in the bottom with an overflow works best for feeding a sump. in doing this you skim the top of the water and all the oil and proteins that gater at the air water interface is what goes to the filters below.
