Anyone tried this overflow box?

There are two designs here and the second one looks quite smart.

I have a potential overflow problem on my sump and I wonder if this would fix it. Not quite what the designer intended, but I'm thinking what if it just sits there primed with DI water, an actual emergency (powercut) over flow in the sump would trigger it into draining the excess rather than flooding the living room.

Without looking I would say you stumbled onto the Wier overflow??? I'm building one at this time. The tricky part is bending the acrylic.I'm almost done with it and will set it up.Keeping my fingers crossed I did it well!
It prevents loss of overflow prime and (TANK FLOODING) if the power goes out,a great concern!

Sure does mate. Natty little design, I thought.

I also think it would be more useful (to me) for water change time. I can pour new water in the return pump end and get the diluted water back from weir. I know this isn't as good as removing X gallons and then replacing it, but I suspect this method is less stressful for the fist.

How are you bending the plastic?

Patience and a propane torch.Try a couple practice pieces 1st.If you get the torch too close the acrylic bubbles, too far and it won't bend.Depending on the torch keep it about 2 inches away and move constantly along the bend line.PRACTICE !!!! 1st!!!!
