dumb question about overflow!!
Hi, I have two Overflow in my 150 gallon aquarium. The question is, where can I find a DIY to make all the system(I mean the pipes from the tank to the sump)?, I've been searching but I haven't find anything, I know maybe is a stupid question but I'm kind of new at this sump think.

The only dumb questions are the ones you don't ask. I'm not too sure of any DIY threads on that. But fairly simple, I will try and draw something up for you. I'll post later.

I'm with Tray on that. There's no such thing as a dumb question (and people who say that there is, are just dumb).
Think of a smaller version of your tank with dividers to let the water flow into the compartments (2, 3, 4 or more) each of which performs a different task. Mine has a prefilter chamber which underflows into the heater section (where the heaters live) and then overflows into a refugium (which is just the largest chamber). Finally it overflows from that into the buffer and return chamber which houses the return pump and skimmer. A word of caution from someone who got it wrong!! 1. Make sure the return pump line has a siphon break and; 2. Make sure that the operating level of your sump is low enough to accept ALL the water overflow from the tank if the power -or- return pump fails suddenly. I can't stress this enough. Sods law dictates this will happen sooner or later, so leave yourself plenty of room for backflow!!! I thought 3 gallons would do mine (nearly 10% of the main tank) but I need nearer to twice that!

This is a basic siphon overflow sold at Aquaculture Supplies, Pond Supplies, Lake Aeration, Aquarium Supplies, Orlando, Florida.
![]() This is about as basic, simple and bulletproof as they come. It is just 2 boxes with a siphon U tube. A stand pipe comes up through the outer overflow compartment which I would substitute using a Durso standpipe. The water just goes down the standpipe into the sump. Some use PVC pipe and some use hose. I prefer hose. |

Here is one for you. however they would need to be larger to accommodate your tank.

After re-reading your post, are those overflow internal and you just want to make Durso stand pipes for them? Or are they hang on such as the ones above?
