sump baffle question

I am making a sump for a 30g tank out of a 5g tank (all that will fit in the stand). Due to the small size of the sump, I am only going to put one baffle in to seperate the refugium section from the area where the return pump will be located. I intend to put in a couple of inches of sand for pod growth but otherwise, macro alge will be the only thing in the fuge section.

My question is, will it be suficient for me to leave the top of the baffle flat (so the water just "sheets" over it), or do I need to notch it similar to the way most HOB overflows are?

Just a suggestion but, I don't think you even really need to do all that. To make it even easier you could just put a bucket or some other type of container in the sump and make that the refug section.

Leaving the baffle flat across the top is just fine.

Thanks. I was dreading having to cut a bunch of slots that need to be two or three times as wide as the saw blade.

FYI, the way to get professional slots cut is with a router and a straight cutting bit.
