top off with kalk.
See if i got this right...
The ro/di water enters the tank1 (the reserve tank). This is setup on a auto top off system. 2. The water from the reserve tank via ice water tubing flows thru the neilsen reactor(kalk stirrrer) then to the sump with a float valve(Kent) in the sump. I want the water from the reserve to enter to kalk stirrer then to the sump via a float at the end. sound right. I dont want to mix the kalk in the reserve tank . what do you think? ![]() Last edited by captainken; 02-05-2007 at 07:36 AM. |

Re: top off with kalk.
There is a downside to this...A failure of the float valve could result in an overdose of kalk and too much topoff with a potential tank overflow.
I use a peristaltic dosing pump to push water through my kalk reactor and into the sump. My dosing pump is actually a double. I run 40 minutes every 4 hours of kalk solution and 50 minutes every 4 hours on RO/DI fresh water for topoff. This is a total of about 3.5 gallons/day of topoff. I have a 225g tank with an 80g sump...so lots of flow and evaporation. |

Re: top off with kalk.
There's also the super-simple version involving a bucket and line...DIY kalkwasser dosing system

Re: top off with kalk.
I've tried the small DIY before. It was enough of a hassle with everything under the tank stand that I didn't get consistent usage out of it. I now have a large volume topoff need (3.5g/day) and a 225g in-wall tank with a "fish room" behind it. My problem is best served by a 55g plastic drum with RO/DI water feeding my kalk reactor and topoff through the dosing pump.
The initial question posed indicated that the user had and was using a kalk reactor and planning a float switch. I commented that a float switch has some inherent risk if it should fail, particularly in the open position. A dosing pump is MUCH safer to use than a float switch. |

Re: top off with kalk.
Agreed. I use a dosing pump on my ATO, it works great!
