Upgraded Lighting, now have algea problem!!!

I had a 30" T-5 dual light for a total of 36 watts(Now lighting my freshies). I ran this for 2 months and decided that I wanted more light, So I bought a Current Orbit as a replacement (as I like the LED Lunar Illumination). My Coraline is starting to do better, but I now have this nasty green algea that seems to now want to go away. I did two 50% water changes in two days, hired more member of the cleaning crew, and reduce lighting from 12 hours to 5 hours. I have also reduced feeding the fish to every other day. What else can I do starve out this green pest?

    Thanks

    Dave

    Hi Dave
    Welcome to Reefland!

I would definately take a closer look at your water quality that you are putting into your tank. What are your nitrates at right now? Have you tested your water source? Your lighting will not cause algae blooms excess nutrients will. HTH

I had the same issue a few months ago and the clean up crew just wouldn't cut it. I added a lawnmower blenny and within two weeks he had every bit of it gone. Since then I have reduced my nitrates and phosphates to 0 and it hasn't returned. But if it did, I think the little blenny would take care of it before it got out of control. May want to add one to your tank until you get the cause of the algae eliminated.
