Converting HOT Protein Skimmer to Refugium?
Hi, I have a CPR Bak Pak and was wondering if I can use the return chamber as a refugium? I was thinking of putting caulerpa and other plants in it to help reduce nitrate. Is that even possible? Please let me know before I do something stupid

I did that for a while- it worked pretty well for me, but it's a real pain to get the caulerpa out. Consider something that won't go sexual on you like Chaeto (I believe). I just relied on ambient light- the macroalgae did fine. Unintentionally, the BakPak is now home to tubeworms and microcrustaceans, and has been for quite some time... I say go for it!

OK, really stupid question, no substrate is needed, right? The Chaeto comes in like a ball and I can just throw it in the bak pak, right?

Okay guys I have a prizm pro. Can I do the same thing? It is made of a brownish grey acrylic not much light gets in there. A really dumb ? but how do the pods get in the main? Through the water flow?

Your not going to be able to in a prism, and I would question the real benefit of doing this on such a small scale in any skimmer...of course I guess any benefit is good.

I use an aquaclear 70 for my fuge. some sand ruble and cheato. one 25 watt light from ikea, works great and hangs on the back.
