MH downlight??

Hi all,

On the weekend i bought a LUX meter to test for fun, what differnt lighting sources produce. Now a friend has MH lighting and his lights put out an amazing 150, 000 LUX.

On return home i checked the MH downlights i have in my house. They also produce 150, 000 LUX.

so now im wondering if i can get them in the right K spectrum?

Any thoughts?

PS the directly Sunlight in winter Australia is 160, 000 LUX.

Re: MH downlight??

Heres some lux readings I took Natural = Natural sunlight.

Natural vs 250 DE's
Granted I live in S. Florida and am closer to the equator than most of you, this should give you a good indicator though. Readings that I took in my 220g lit by 3 - 250w DE 10k ushios and the readings from my greenhouse.

196000 LUX 3" under bulb (No UV sheild)
67900 LUX Right under Glass approx. 3.5" (UV sheild)

In GH at 12pm (spring), No clouds, No shadecloth, my lux at mid tank level (submersed in water) is 60,000 Lux

In my 220g w/3 HQI-250w 10k Mid tank level (submersed in water) is 9,300 Lux

The tanks both had same depth. So in my location compared to the equator I was getting over 6x's the lighting that my 220g was getting utilizing natural sunlight.

Hope this helps ya
