Tunze Turbelle Stream Kit TS24 - Two Stream 6101 + 7095 MultiController (Saltwater Aquarium Supplies > Powerheads > Adjustable Flowrate Pumps )

If this is what you guys are wanting me to get it's out of the question. Budget simply won't allow for it.

OOPS

Chuck, you will be fine with what your original plan is. If you everything aimed in the right direction, flow wise, you should be able to grow just about anything.
You can't blame us for not trying tho.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

Since I just paid my car off and my wifes truck we now have a lot more money available. I may upgrade my own system with one of these setups in a few months.

What I really need to find out is how these controllers work on the reactors. I can't find much information at all on the topic. By reading the RC tank of the month I have a little better understanding of how they work because he uses this design. This is what he says:

"A Milwaukee pH controller regulates CO2 addition with a setpoint of pH 6.6 on the reactor’s effluent. If the tank’s pH drops below 7.9, the Neptune controller turns off the CO2 solenoid valve, no matter what the pH controller calls for. "

I had hoped to run the auto top off through the kalk reactor but he doesn't like that idea and says only this about it.

"The kalkwasser is added to the tank via a dosing pump; I don’t trust adding kalkwasser via top-off solenoids as some people do. The kalkwasser dosing pump is turned on and off as pH drops below 8.15 and above 8.16, respectively."

I have messaged him in hopes of enlightenment.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

That was the one.... I didn't realize it was quite THAT much, I was thinking it was around $600 or so.

How about a couple or 6060's, just ON though?

Re: New 180 gallon system build

That's possible. I just ordered so much from Premium Aquatics. After I explained to Jason what I'm doing it for he gave me a very very nice discount. I'm actually glad I didn't have my wholesale account over there anymore. I saved more than I would have with wholesale just by talking to them.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

I'm giving some serious thought to one of the Fauna Marin UltraSolaris 4x80w T5HO Fixtures that you can find on aquarium obsessed. My aquascape will fill the majority of the system but will have 8" or so on each side of the structure so the corals will mostly be located in the center and not to the sides. The dimensions on it are 60"x8"x3.5". What I don't know is if the fixture can be setup to fire up bulbs at different times. The other option is 4 coralvue 48 inch fixtures that I could stagger side to side. I know, love and trust the coralvue. This would give me 2 more bulbs and cover the entire display with light. Either way the price is about the same.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

So far I like my T5's, and I think a 60" fixture on a 72" tank would be fine, as long as you planned for it in coral placement.

I ran my 6' 135 with 2 250W halides, and I actually used the "darker" ends to my advantage with Xenia and Mushrooms growing out there.

You may be able to get away a little cheaper using a retro kit though, as you have a canopy, the lighting doesn't have to look pretty.... Have you priced out an IC retro? Or maybe even a retro using Workhorse ballasts, I hear you can get a ballast to fire 2 54W T5's for around $25 from an electrical supply house.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

Considering that you probably aren't going to have any sps in there Chuck, I would go with a T5 fixture. The only thing would be bulb replacement.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

I have budgeted in for a complete bulb change every 6 months for 8 54w T5's. I found a great deal on the coralvue fixtures and can get them cheaper than I did when I ordered them though the business so I went with 4 48" 2 bulb fixtures that I will stagger throughout the canopy. They will be on individual timers and will ramp up and down throughout the day.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

I don't know why that many boxes with 6 different tracking numbers but that's the way it is.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

This is what I found out reading around RC about the reverse controller. The probe goes into the sump before the pump and it's wired to the kalk reactor on setups that have automatic top off units. The auto top off can then be plumbed to the reactor without fear of it getting stuck on and over dosing the tank with limewater. If the ph reading gets too high the controller shuts down the reactor.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

Alright I need to educate myself a little better about controllers and how they're used, setup and maintained. I will have four total lights on the display to fire up at two different intervals and one light on the refugium that will be reverse lit. I will also have reactors that I want to control the high and low ends of ph and heaters. If I can control the reactors with one unit rather than buying two seperate controllers and having to deal with replacing probes on both of them I'd like to go that route. What are my options as far as controlling all of this at once? I've never ran one so please help me figure this out.

Re: New 180 gallon system build

Here are the questions that I have

With four powerheads, four sets of lights and two heaters and needing to control the kalk and Ca reactors for ph how do I do that with only 8 plugs for power and 1 probe connector for ph?

Re: New 180 gallon system build

I think your best bet is to go with a decent strip outlet with a surge protector on it as well. That should give you at least 5 extra outlets. As for the pH controller, can't you just add 2 outlets to the one outlet on the controller to handle both devices?
