Worlds most expensive 5g bucket

My top off system for my Nilsen arrived the other day and I must say that Don at Reefwerks does a great job. I thought I'd post the way I'm going to top off a bucket that will in a few weeks be used to feed my Nilsen on the way from MRC.

The concept is very nice and Don might have to jump in and correct me but this is my take on it.

The first picture is of the equipment. It has a controller box a solenoid and two floats. One float goes in the bottom of the bucket the other towards the top. When both switches are up the unit is off. When both are down the unit is on. When the bottom one raises up and makes contact it activates the top one. When the top one raises up it kills the flow of water through the solenoid. These are all wired to the controller. A kent float is mounted in the bucket as a third check to make sure it never overflows. The water enters through the kent float and the bucket tops itself all the way off once the water level gets below the first float. This way my RO isn't constantly switching on and off. A peristaltic pump is mounted above the unit and is set on a timer. It feeds water to the Nilsen at night and cuts off during the day.

The second picture is the unit installed on the bucket. I didn't have the option to mount it all to the stand like I did at the school so I did it this way. The solenoid gets hot so I mounted a ceramic tile piece directly behind it.

The third pic is of the two floats mounted in the bucket. I hadn't put the kent float in yet but you get the idea.
I'd like to thank Don for a great product and great customer service. I've tested both of these setups for the entire weekend and they're great.

Is a little expensive for a bucket. Happy its working out for you. Should help save your ro membrane and di resin.

Thanks
Don

Re: Worlds most expensive 5g bucket

It's gonna work great for the application I had in mind....and will be easy to move if I need to do so.

What can you tell me about opticals used to control water levels?

How they work
Longevity of them
cost
pros and cons
maintenance etc

Opticals work great. Probably the only con I can think of is the cost. They hold up very well, Ive never seen one go out in the few years Ive been using them. Essentialy they work just like a float but with more accuracy and of course more electronics. Its all solid state so there is no moving parts to go out like a float switch.
