A Fish Quarantine Process
How many of us have a quarantine set up system? I have never, but it's hard to ignore considering to have it with all the strong advise out there. So, in considering this, who and what simple approaches exist in setting up a quarantine system (tank). I only have a 29g reef/fish tank. Here are few questions I have:
1) Is a 5 gal tank large enough?
2) Can it somehow be filterd so it can share the same water circulaiton from my 29g tank to the quarantine tank with out risk of cross contamination?
3) If not, what all is needed in the quarantine tank just for observing new fish before putting into reef tank?
4) How long should quarntine be done?
Any other information and suggestions, please!
Thanks gang,

I have to admit I'm the worst when it comes to a qt. Ive never had had one and have paid the price quite a few different times.
I now have a 20 g FO tank in my office that I could use if needed. Not sure how much good it would do since it hasnt had a water change in 6 months.![]()

Quarantine tanks should be used by all members of the aquarium hobby when introducing new fish to a tank, but are unfortunately used by less than 5% of all aquarium owners. Every time we bring a new inhabitant into our aquarium we run the risk of introducing disease and parasites. At the same time, new fish will be very stressed from transport and relocation and will be very susceptible to any diseases or parasites present in the new environment.![]()
