Asian food & Fish food recipes!
You can buy Nori there for about 1/5th the price what it cost @ LFS's, and there is freeze dried krill and other seafood goodies to make your own DIY food recipes. Anyone else doing this?
I went to the LFS and bought some mysid, and brine, and bloodworms, then I went to the seafood section @ walmart and bought some scallops, shrimp, fish, and squid...then off to the Asian food store bought nori, krill and some other type of shrimp....threw it all in a food processor and minced it up...then filled ziploc baggies and flattened them out b4 freezing now I will just break off a little piece for feeding and put it in a small dixie cup w/some tank water to thaw b4 feeding

Re: Asian food & Fish food recipes!
Nice post...I was wondering how people "made their own" fish food, so to speak. The only thing I've been doing lately is one day I'll feed frozen brine shrimp and the next I'll feed flake food (mixed in a bowl of tank water first, however).
I haven't tried any of the other stuff. I do have a ton of raw shrimp (frozen in a bag) and about once a week or so, I cut off a piece of that, let it sit in the bowl of tank water and then put it on a stick to feed my brittle star. He goes mad over it now. Maybe I'll have to try your little trick. This way I can break it off, just like I do the frozen brine shrimp. ![]()

Re: Asian food & Fish food recipes!
I have been trying to get by the store all week. Maybe this weekend. Definitely a lot cheaper than buying the frozen foods from LFS.

Re: Asian food & Fish food recipes!
Sounds like a great idea Rocky. I make my own food from a recipe Kevin gave me 4 years ago.
One more thing, if I threw anything remotely related to fish food in Lorie's food processor, I might as well throw myself in too. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Asian food & Fish food recipes!
That sounds like a good recipe. I would like to try that. I too only feed frozen brine at night and flake in the morning. I'm sure my critters would love a little more variety and it would be healthier for them too. I guess I would need to test the slurry maybe by dropping some in a bowl of water to see if it's been chopped up enough. I only have small creatures and even when I feed flake food, I have to crunch it up into little pieces before they will eat it. I would have to probably be really careful to watch my water quality with all that juicy stuff being put into the tank?

Re: Asian food & Fish food recipes!
Can you put this stuff into a blender (14 setting one, I think) and have it mix/chop it up enough? That's all I have and I'm not going to go out and buy a food processor just for the fish... :slap:
Then again... LOL

Re: Asian food & Fish food recipes!
Yeah I would think so too Mat...Not much difference than a processor. I like to make different bite sizes which even w/the processor I can select that still...yet it does make a dust size particulate matter wich my LPS corals LOVE!!!

Re: Asian food & Fish food recipes!
Cool...just thought I'd check. I never use it anyway.
I guess if I ever have company over and make mixed drinks/margaritas and they say "Hmmm...these taste a little fishy", I'll just shrug my shoulders and smile...while I'm drinking a beer out of the bottle. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
