    Tank Stand Design

Just wanting a little helpful criticism on a stand I am designing it will be steel boxed with plained down old barn siding. I am building it for a 125g drilled with dual overflows. The demintions are 18"W 72"L 34-38"H I am going to use a 55g for my sump with a euro-reef 135 skimmer and a 10 g second tank to house my return pump with a built in emergency system to avoid pump leaking.

You are definately on the right path here. I think another set of over under over baffles before the return pump would help you. The design I see closest to the return will keep bubbles out of the return pump but leaves a dead spot inbetween those two. It's not really a big deal at all but if you do decide to go with the three baffles you might like it better. I take eggcrate grid and gutter guard and line those baffle areas with it. This is very effective at keeping macro algae from the refugium out of the pump and display.

I built a stand out of angle iron and it is a headache but my entire stand was made of it. I couldn't keep it from rusting and I used the best primer and paint I could find.

Did you ever think of powder coating?

Yeah I did and should have done something. The guy I worked for at the time was into powder coating and he had a rhino liner spray rig. I hadn't worked there very long and didn't ask him if he would coat the stand but I wish I had. I think either of those ideas would work great but the rhino liner would have been cool .
