Thumbs up Makin your own Sea Swirl

Ok...we know its a favorite piece of equipment but also very pricey....this might be our salvation....check this link out and scroll down till you see The AutoRotator Surge Device

http://home.att.net/~Ah64av8tor/DYI.htm

here is also a thread on it as well.

http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin...threadid=18184

...I think there have been some different MODS on it I think I might give this a shot! I have seen other DIY sea swirls but for some reason the Old thread I started on the other links has been lost Scott, Aragorn, or RBF or any moderators for that matter can you guys see if you can find the thread? here is where it used to be

http://www.reefland.com/ubb/Forum15/HTML/000136.html

....if Not then if anyone still has the other sprinkler type Sea swirl DIY projects then post the links here please

Scuba,
I think it got archived during the upgrade. Scott's still working on archiving everything. It'll probably be in the archive. How soon do you need the information?

Well I dont need it anytime soon....cuz I like the DIY SS that I posted above better than the other 2 links that where on the old thread....but I was just wanting to add all this to the old thread or vice versa....that way we have all the eggs in one basket....this is an awesome topic IMO and there are alot of ppl that can use this info....Its funny cuz there was some legality problems on another board cuz someone tore apart their SS and posted pics on another board.....Sea Swirl was pissed becuz of this (which is understandable i guess) but I knew it was just a matter of time before there is a good DIY SS....and I think this one above is the best one so far (and it doesnt even need electricity like the SS do) Im just glad to hear that you guys still have the old thread, but no big rush.... I think im gonna buy 2 Sea Swirls...and then make 2 of them DIY style...Im gonna proly put one of each on my tank and do more like an analysis on the two....see which one performs the best, which one takes a crap first...and how long they last...etc etc. I Will post all results here of course!

It seems that the rpm of these DIY devices are aroung 30. Doesn't the sea swirl run at 1 rpm? I thought I read this somewhere. I am looking for a 1 rpm motor that is 110v with no luck. Let me know/ correct me. Thanks, Bill.

If you've ever seen a sea swirl, they rotate much faster then 1 rpm.

Hey folks,

I've been toying with building a Sea Swirl device myself. Here's some links for motors:

http://www.herbach.com/

http://www.sciplus.com/

I think that a guy could probably end up spending about the same to build his own SS device -- but what the heck...

Hope this helps,

Dave

bubba, never saw one in action. I was "reefering" to the info your buddy c.e. gave me. BTW, he came through with the pics. Just about everything I needed. Thanks for the heads-up, Bill.

Billzie,

Would you mind shipping those pics of the SS off to me? They deleted the post before I could print it.

Thanks,

Dave
