    Question Acceptable Glass Paint

I want to remove the black paper from my QT and paint the exterior of the glass black. What paint types would be ok and not peel later? I still have some water-based blk enamel that I used on my stand, this ok to use?

    Thanx
    Eric

    Re: Acceptable Glass Paint

I can tell you what I used. I picked up a spray can of black appliance enamel at either Wal-Mart or Lowes and it worked great. The trick is to spray a VERY thin first coat and wait for that to dry before spraying a second coat. It turned out nice. It was very shiny. Make sure the glass surface is absolutely clean and absolutely dry first. I did a final wipe down with plain water with a little vinegar in it and then dried it very well. I guess rubbing alcohol would work too but I didn't have any of that laying around.

I used masking tape and old newspapers to make sure that all of the surrounding glass was covered. And, of course, I did this outdoors on an empty, brand new tank.

One should be EXTREMELY wary of using paint on a tank that has inhabitants! In fact, one should be extremely wary of using paint anywhere near a tank that has inhabitants.

Hmmm... didn't even think of appliance/oven paint. I used some of my artist's acrylic paint on my 75g while it was up. Took at least 5 coats to get it thick enough to not scratch off easy. Now it's a plastic layer lol. Thanx.

I use Krylon Fusion Flat Black. Designed for plastics but works fine on glass. It is very hard to remove so do it right the first time.

You'll get tired of hearing about it, but cloroplast (corrugated plastic) also works well for this. Available in blue or black, water proof, cut to fit, and disposable.
