Hello!
There is really no right or wrong answer, get what you like! Personally I like the blue better then the black, but to each there own. ;)
I just got a 46g and I want to know what I should do with the back before filling it up.
Would spray painting the back black be good? Or should I go for the black backgrounds that you buy at the pet store?

JMHO, but I've always had luck with painting the back with a latex paint, get a small foam roller and put a coat on then the next coat go the opposite direction, then a third coat opposite of that, let dry between coats. keep in mind this is a method used only if your not hanging anything on the back of tank. the latex is real easy to peel off if you nick it. we once had a tankback that was the same color as the wall, kinda added alot of depth, if you know what i mean.
Coraline algae will be growing there soon enough. Makes a beautiful background
don't waste your time or money on a background. it should be completely covered with coraline in 6-9 months.
at least mine was. i'm even having a hard time keeping the viewing pane clear!
if you dont want to paint try using static gling tint 5.0 works great
but coraline is better![]()
