This ought to give you several ideas anyways. See what you can find!
I have a 75 gallon aquarium with a 20 gallon sump. I want to add a fuge. I thought of a hang on, but my sump only fills half way. I don't see where I have room in the current sump, there is a section where the water enters, section for the heater and skimmer, bubble trap then the return pump. I was thinking of adding a 5 or 10 gallon tank to this setup for the fuge but don't understand how to get the water to or from the new fuge. I've been reading websites only to add more confusion. I could also take a 30 gallon aquarium and make a whole new sump/fuge, but if that's the road to take, would someone be kind enough to give me some kind of diagram to go by to build this ? The fuge would go after the skimmer ? just before the return pump ? Did I at least get that right ?
Thanks

Rome wasn't built in a day---neither is a reef

Would love to know what you came up with I am in the same boat.
Well, I decided for now to just use my old sump. The overflow would go into the first section which also has the skimmer, then the second section I could use for macro algea then the third section is the return. I am unable to use any sand or make a real fuge cause the second section has the water fed "under" the baffles. I am eventually going to build a new one out of a 30 gallon this is the plan I may use, it's the easiest and most uncomplicated one I have found so far.
Robin you could always add a small baffle to hold the sand in place, would on take a small piece of plexiglass and a tube of sealant, put it an inch or two from the under baffle, and viola, sandbox.
Robert
Hey, didn't think about that
You mean like sorta build a "box" inside of that compartment so to speak.
But I wouldn't put the new baffles as high as the outer baffles, so the water sorta just floats "over" that section.
Damn Robert, your good![]()
You wouldn't need to make it high anyway, the only reason that baffle is there is to hold the sand in place, it could be 3 - 4 inches high or as high as you want
Tanks,
Robert
Gotcha, good idea. That's what I'm gonna do ! That way I can put off the new sump until I get the other more important things done but still meet my requirements![]()
atta girl, hang on to that link Charlie gave you, he's got the design I'm gonna use on mine when it stops raining so I can work and earn some money to do it
Tanks,
Robert
