    Durso pipe installed!

Is this the best hobby or what?

Where else can you get the thrill that you might be about to flood your den with some makeshift plumbing?!?

I plugged in my pump, and... holy cow it worked! I can't believe I listened to crashing water for over 10 years!

If you have a noisy overflow and haven't heard of these before...

Oh, man... I hear you there, Todd.
I installed my first set in 1999 ( bought it from the original reefland) in my 110g tank. They still work.
Then in 2002 I made my first durso for the 75 I was setting up, by copying the originals. Then my sea hare climbed into it couple of years ago and caused my tank to overflow over the top.., causing auto top off to dump at least 5-10 gallons of fresh water into my sump.., then back on the floor via the top...

    What a mess....
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Guess I better not forget to add an intake strainer.

That would be a great idea.
I actually cut out piece of eggcrate to fit overflow exactly and just dropped it in. It fit perfectly without any space left for the snails to get in. Large enough snail, like the Mexican turbo can do the same damage as large sea hare.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

I was going to go with something like this, but it seems overpriced:

    Suction Screen Slip

But if a fish gets in the overflow, he would be able to survive until he was discovered.

Maybe I'll find a cheaper strainer somewhere else. The trick of course is to maximize the surface area to prevent clogging. I don't want to have to worry about it much once installed.
