I am looking for a place where I can purchase a sump. I was told someone on this BB makes custom ones for sale. If this is true, I would love to talk to you. If anybody knows of a good place to get a sump, please let me know!
Thanks, Jessica |

What are you looking to do ? many times a small aquarium works well, and its usually cheap. I have a 10 gal under my 55. If youre just using it as a place to put the skimmer and other stuff, this works just fine. You could also glue partitions in it if you want some kind of prefilter.....Mike

Well, I guess just as a place to put a skimmer and maybe an auto topoff. Do you have any skematics or something for a sump out of a regular 10 gallon tank? How do I attach the input and output fittings (I guess they're called bulkheads)? What other relevant questions should I be asking?
Thanks. Jessica |

Ok the input from the tank just dumps into the sump. I used PVC pipe and plumbed the overflow box down to the sump. the water just exits the pipe and splashes into the sump. The skimmer is self contained in the sump, Pump runs through a hose into the skimmer, and skimmer dumps back into the sump. Now to get back to the tank all you need is a pump and attach the approiate size tubing to it and route it back to the tank. No need for bulkheads or other expensive stuff. The tank wont cost more than 10 bucks, ( do you have a used one lying arround? ) and the only other cost will be maby 20 bucks for the PVC and tubeing. ( besids the pumps and skimmer ov course) Does this help? Mike

check out www.candybass.com I am pretty sure the bassman makes nice sumps to any specification you want. Youll have to go through the members area and either email him or talk to him in the chatroom.

also newbie with DIY sump
ive only been in reef tanks for about a year now.i just upgraded to a 90gal drilled and converted my old 55gal into a sump.i siliconed pcs of plexi to make baffles and bought a foam piece(11.00)for the entrance to last baffle(return chamber).i used vinyl hoses for drain and return lines.(slope your drain,do not go straight down(overflow made a horrible slurping sound constantly)).i also converted a storage bin into my refugium(5.00).im new to reef tanks but am pretty handy building and constructing.DIY is FAR cheaper than buying new and you have a sense of pride doing it yourself
