Some silicon products have antimicrobial or antifungal additives. You wanna stay away from those.

I'm pretty sure the bath and kitchen silicons have the antifungal in them because those areas of the house are usually exposed to more water and humidity and more prone to mold build-up.

Regular silicone sealant uses vinegar (very acidic) as a base that will release into the water slowly over time. Eventually all the base will be gone but who knows how long that will be. The anti-microbial types will obviously inhibit bacteria growth in the aquarium which would be bad. Unfortunately, you have to use the electronic or aquarium grade silicone RTV. Do note that RTV doesn't really bond to plexiglass. For small jobs the PB-11 2-part stick epoxy is aquarium safe and works really well, but it's expensive for large jobs such as putting in baffles. This is one of them times where you just have to pay the man, so to speak.

Question Re: Do i need "aquarium safe" silicone

I'm not sure here now.... I used a GE II* clear Premium Silicone Glue 100 percent. Is this good? I used it to mod (DIY) my tank fuge sys. Gosh, I hope so.... my boxer crap seems ok. It moves and stuff. Some one let me know please!
    Thanks!!

Re: Do i need "aquarium safe" silicone

from what i have learned i believe you should of used 100% GE 1 but as long as its 100% silicone and not the bathroom and kitchen stuff I think youll be ok. When i made my sump i let it dry for a week or more so it would get a good cure before adding water.
