I would go with a cheap Power compact like the LOA (lights of america) from home depot, just watch out for heat and salt creep.

a cheap compact light that is at least 5100K and around 75 watts is good. i bought one of those swirly compact flouesent bulbs from my local hardware store for $5. i got a 20 watt=75 watt and it's 6500K. since the Kelvin rating is higher, it has a blue tone to it. makes my fuge look great.

i suggest making an LED fixture using cree xp-g neutral white, that way it keeps the tank that little bit cooler that could make a difference in the summer and you never have to even worry baout changing the lights. i made one once for a 20 x 12 fuge i used 12 leds and 1 driver. about 175 bucks thats it. Hope this helps Good Luck!

I am all for flourescents in this application as an energy saver. There are many options at the hardware stores. T-8's are nice. Just be sure to get a "daylight" bulb to provide the proper spectrum for optimal algae growth. Don't forget a timer and set it opposite the tanks lighting cycle to help curb potential PH swings.

Over time science has shown that the simplest answers are usually the correct ones.......
