    Light Repaires and Silicon Types

    Hi guys,

    just a quick question,

i replaced the ballists in my lighting unit, they where sealed in so i had to take an angle grinder to the thing,

i cut a 6 inch by 1 inch section out replaced and repaired, job done (nice £6 fix to my lights)

    ...my question,

i have a larger peice of plastic i now want to seal over the hole i have cut,

i have some standard bathroom silicone, i wondered if this would be ok to use in the lights as there not actually in the water there above it....????

if not any idea's let me no,

    Dave

    I don't see why that wouldn't work.

The heat of the fixture while running might screw up the curing process though...that could degrade the bond. Are you able to give it at least 24 hours to cure before turning it back on?
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

I don't think that the Bathroom silicone will hold up against the salt will eventually end on the fixture. I would advise using aquarium silicone or pure silicone for this job. jmo

    your not far from wrong,

the first attempt: i left the thing to dry for 24 hours looked prity stuck, fired it up and about 1 hr later it started to come apart.

i have now scraped all the silicon off and gone for round 2, using acuarium grade silicon and a couple of screws,

i'll let ya know how that one goes,

    Dave

A 2 Part epoxy would do it, but that would be permanent.
