planning refugium(question~~)

Here is a brief picture of refugium in short time.
I'm planning to make refugium in main tank(L:W:H = 60cm:45:45)
(Main tank has no sump.)
I will place it beside the main tank.
I plan to put livesand and live rock in it.

refugium
L:45cm(18inches) W:20cm(8inches) H:55cm(22inches)

1. It has three holes.
Both sides is for in/out part and middle one is for in case of overflowing.
2. the size of each hole is 2~3cm(0.8 in ~ 1.2inch),and I will connect PVC pipe and eheim
hoses.
3. the pump for in_part is placed in main tank (6.5~10watt) and the pipe of out_part is like ¤¡

Here is my question

1. what is the proper size of hole?
2. In Out_part, is there air bubbles?
if that case is happened..how can I handle them?
3. 6.5~10watt pump is strong for refugium ?
4. Do I have to place refugium to higher place than main tank?
Is it possible to place refugium beside the main tank?

Thank you for reading My poor English ^^

Smile Hello 7thheaven

Hmmm...I think I understand a little bit of your setup. I will attempt to help you.

This can be very small if you want...from the looks of it you have 2 intakes to the refugium and 1 output...if this is the case you are gonna make the output pipe a bit bigger than the inputs right? You dont need much flow through your refugium I would say around 1/2" maybe smaller even.

I would make sure that the the inlet part of the output in the refugium is far enough under the waterline that you dont create a suction-type effect thus sucking air into the output (this will be directly relative to the flow rate...the higher the flow rate the more chances you have of this happening) As far as if there is bubbles then you can make a baffle somehow and shield the intake where the bubbles are getting in.

I think a good powerhead would be just about all you needed for circulation through the refugium

Well yes in essence if you are making it a gravity fed (which from the looks of it you are) the output of the refug. appears to me to be gravity feed? and the inputs are pumped from the tank? Technically you could have it at the same level as long as your output is higher than the water line of the tank and naturally the input. I would highly advise to put the refugium a bit higher than the main tank. less chances of malfunction IMO.
