Drilling Glass Update
ORGASMIC! Well, maybe not that good but I tried the Diamond Edge hole saw today and I can only tell you that it blows carbide grit out of the water. I was very cautious with the first hole, took it slow and easy. Must have taken all of 90 seconds to pop through. (I didn't time it) Second hole I got a little more aggressive, (I did time it), 60 seconds. Third hole went through in less than 45 seconds! Sure, it cost $69 for a 1-3/4" but if you are going to drill more than one or two holes it is worth every penny. I have spent more than that on carbide grit hole saws already, they just don't last. Besides, I got tired of the time it takes. Also, exit side of hole is maybe 90% cleaner than carbide grit saw, not razor sharp but very little chipping or fracturing. I'm sold! Manufactured by Starret, I got mine through Grainger.

Where did you locate your holes, and did you apply any form of lubricant? No cracks......huh? May i'll try it myself.
Did you drill from inside out or outside in? Now, this is tempered glass we're talking about. Jerry Last edited by JerryReef; 10-28-2001 at 01:22 AM. |
