    Question diy sump with live sand, rock and skimmer

    im real new to this, so bear with me please... i want to set up a propagation tank in my basement...i will have 2 100g tanks, one for the sump, one for the actual cuttings...

    in the sump, i want to have all of the live rock, live sand, and protein skimmer...how do i set up the sump so that the live rock and sand do not interfere with the skimmer ???

    Hi jeffyo!

    Welcome to Reefland!

    Partitioning the sump is the best method. Use acrylic or plexiglass to make divided areas in teh sump, one for the skimmer, one for the LS, LR, etc., and one for the return pump. Optimally, there will be a series of baffles prior to the return pump for bubble diffusion, preventing micro bubbles from returning to the display. I have always used an over-under-over baffling system prior to the return with great results.
