We're on the same wavelength Techie...
I was just about to post a topic on asking for info on DIY Automating top-off and wanted to know more about not just kent float valves, but any others as well as finding out info on float switches...

Any Info?

I use the SpectraPure LiterMeter pump attached to an 18 gallon Rubbermaid container. It has its own float switch that is located in my sump. The float switch is not the best as it takes about an inch in either direction (above or below), before it will shut off or turn on. Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it, though.

Can't you adjust the float switch somehow?...you have a 110, I only have a 50g and 1" will be too close for comfort for me.
Thanks Skip!

FT,
You only need the valve. The float valve kit contains a solinoid if you are hooking it up to a ro system. The solinoid shuts off the incoming water into the membrane when the float is in the up position. For what you are using it for you just need the valve. They are about $17 @ Pet Warehouse. You will need to drill a 1/2" (i think) hole in the side of the sump to mount the valve. I do believe there is a bracket available if you don't want to drill a hole.Bob

there wont be an RO unit it will be fed from a 5 gallon container via gravity. will there be enough pressure to kick it on and off?

now can i add another one in the container?? that would bring water in from an under sink filter...

Nut.....the float switch is an air pressure type. No, I've tweaked it the best I can and there is always that much of a variance. Wish I could, though. Maybe some of these links will help on float switches: http://www.sipedon.com/floatswitch.html http://www.lifereef.com/float.html#About
Also, go to: http://www.marine-monsters.com/ and look under dosers/sensor and check out the AquaSense. Looks cool!

I would think that it should work fine. I have one hooked to my ro system but I have read many posts with the float hooked to a container just like yours.Obviously the container would have to be higher than the valve.
