I'm wanting to add a powerhead or wavemaker to my 30 gal. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what brand to buy? How powerful does it need to be? Do I need more than one? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks all!

NTG, What is the size of the return pump in your skilter? As a general rule , you want 10 X water changes , so your 30 would require 300 GPH water movement to meet that . Your skilter is probably very close to that now so my suggestion would be to add only small powerheads to eliminate dead spots if you have any.I believe the maxijets are highly thought of. You can look at your sand and see if it has accumulations on it . This would suggest areas of poor circulation. You can also tie a piece of thread to a clear acrylic air line and using this as a probe , put it in different areas and see if the thread moves or sinks. I vote for maxijets maybe like the maxijet 600's I have two maxijet 900's on my 46 and love them I switched over from 2 two penguin 402 powerheads...Big pieces of JUNK!!!Don't waste your money ..there on my freshwater tank now nd I still have too spares just use them for mixing and pumping water....I would go with 2 maxijet 600's great...heres a link for a good store where many of us bu our from me included...>Dan http://www.petwhse.com/gillsgrotto/default.html

Thanks for the advice on the maxijets. I'm not sure what size my return pump is in my skilter. I will have to check on that. So, is everything I will need going to be included with the maxijet or will I need to buy additional supplies to set it up?
