I have the 4" Radio Shack's with ball bearings, cost around 17 ea. They are quiet IMO.

Overall I would say the IceCaps, due to their variable speed. They only really crank up when needed and even then they run pretty quiet. At night they barely run and are silent.

I have two IceCap fans and am less than completely happy about the noise level so far. They are variable, which helps, but they always seem to run on the second or third level in my hood (3 - 175 watt halides and 2 160 watt vho). However, they are quieter than any other fan I have tried, and the IceCap people are helpful in trying to reduce the noise further.
By the way, I noticed that the fan blowing air out of my hood is much louder than the one blowing air in. I am also considering Duramat or some other noise reducer and will post my results, if any. |

The IC has plastic parts but any metal will corroid unless it all plastic?SW humidity going through the fan. if you have alot of heat I would vent the top like you said before and run both fans blowing in and the circulation should blow the heat out of the top. Or I belive you maybe replacing the on fan more often. If you vent the top it may reduce the heat and the fans maynot blow as hard?? You were considering this before just wondering if its still an option? [This message has been edited by Ironreef (edited 12-31-2000).] |

I was not aware of that! This is the configuration that mine were in when Hamilton shipped it to me. It is pretty simple to reverse it. So far no problems, but I am one of those people who leaves the acrylic "lens" in place to cut down on evaporation and because it is easier to clean that every couple of days than a bunch of light bulbs.

pretty common prob with metal fans like computor. Not sure if IC will have the prob it has more plastic but any metal should/might corroid unless if theres a coating of some sort?
