I did some searching around and trying to find acrylic. And its a bit more exspensive then I have hoped for. I was going to use 3/8" thick acrylic. How thin can I go. I am making a small tank. Only 7.7 gallons. Could I get away with just using the stuff I can get at home depot, So far just for the acrylic and lights it would be almost 200. I wasnt planing on spending that much. Any thoughts?

srgtkoons,
I think 3/8 will suffice. My refugium is 25 gallons and it is made out of 1/4". It bows slightly, I do not think that 7 gallons will bow 3/8". Scott |

Sorry i explained that poorly. I want to use thiner then 3/8. There is stuff at home depot that is pretty thin. But with how small a tank im doing i dont think it should be that much of a problem. Any other ideas? I was going to build the hood for it and have the hood add some support to it.

You should use 1/4". I just made a sump that is 29x15x17 (about 29 gal) using 1/4". For 7 gal, 1/4 would be the best choice. I think the thinner acrylic is too flexible to work. mgk65 |
